try going to garage sales in your area, second hand baby stores, consignment shops, walmart. Put a wanted add in your local news paper classifieds, some radio stations have a segment in their show where they say “so and so has this for sale , here’s their phone number ” or “so and so is looking for this and this, call them if you have it and would be willing to sell it/ give it away their number is: ” just call around, there’s also Walmart. – the possiblities are endless! We were on a budget with our first baby – we found a crib for $100 at Walmart, and for a changing table we just used the top of an old dresser my mom had (sanded it and painted it white with stars on it) and purchased a changing table pad for like $10 (again at Walmart) and for a bassinett, my husband’s second cousin (who lives a couple states away) loaned us her old one!

Don’t waste a lot of money on clothes. Get a crib made out of hardwood and get a decent car seat. Sunshine Kids makes a convertible car seat that goes from 5 to 80 pounds in a five point harness which is very important and would be worth every penny. For this seat you are looking at about $250.00, but you would not have to buy a car seat for a very long time(I think that this car seat doesn’t expire for 7 years). Don’t bother buying those car seats that go from 5 to 100 pounds. Most of them will be boosters once the child gets to forty pounds. Please go to this website before getting a car seat. http://www.kyledavidmiller.org.

  3. Walmart has some “Nursery-in-a-Box” if you are on a tight budget. You can get a crib, changing table and dresser for $200. It’s probably won’t last for several kids, but it’s a deal for the price. They also carry some of the same stuff as babiesrus for less money. Good Luck!

The only baby furniture you need is a crib and mattress. You can get by without any of the other stuff. If funds are your problem, it’s best to put it there.

I think IKEA’s prices are reasonable. That is where I got my daughters stuff. And of course second hand or children’s consignment stores is another great place.

There is also craigslist and resale shops. Most resale shops check for recalls before they place items on the floor (at least the responsible ones do), but it would be good since you have internet access to familiarize yourself with the names of good brands. Ideally research anything you see on Craigslist before purchasing, and make sure the resale shop has a generous return policy before buying. We did pretty good for a used Pali crib and changing table through resale, made a huge difference for our budget.
