I think buying or “borrowing” items from family members or close friends is okay, but there is no way I would let my child share the same furniture as some complete stranger. Who knows what they could have done with it? At least with family members and close friends you know whether or not they value cleanliness.
Then again, I may just be overreacting. I am, after all, borderline obsessive compulsive lol.
I don’t feel that way. I bought a brand new crib for my son and this baby will use that. I am all about using used things, take it they are in good condition. My cousin got a crib and refinished it and it is the cutest crib ever. The crib was free, so she just had to buy the materials to fix it up. We bought my son a used carseat. Washed it and looks brand new. They grow so fast! However, I can understand if it is your first child how you want them to have everything brand new.
I didn’t want anything for my son second hand, only thing i took used was stuff from my sisters but anyone else i took it being nice, but when i got home i give it to the goodwill, but to each its own that just me.
I know want you mean there. My mom did the same thing to buy from my brother used crib that he used for his son. Mom says the same with the carseat and all. I did use the used crib with both of my boys. But I paid the stroller carseat clothe’s and abby swing right from the store new. And I got a playpen that was new but got it from my baby shower. But I am planning to have a third one. Will have a new crib and so on. I don’t have my baby swing anymore. I like the news one I be getting that. Car seat will need a new one. I still have my playpen and stroller’
I’m half and half. For furniture like a crib and changing table, I was okay with getting used because I could evaluate it pretty easily to see if it was still sturdy and safe. A quick look at the relevant product recalls and a thorough cleaning was all I was worried about. With something like a stroller, car seat, bouncy seat, playpen, etc., I couldn’t do it. There are too many parts that I can’t make a reliable judgment on…what if that little plastic bit holding it all together got stressed at some point or something is missing that I wouldn’t know should be there? I couldn’t take the risk that my kid was going to get folded up like a pretzel or squished/suffocated/dropped… Things like diaper genies and wipe warmers aren’t really a concern since the baby wasn’t going to spend a whole lotta time in em : ) Bleach away and enjoy!
Sometimes i buy the used clothes and stuff like that. But i like the brand new furniture, strollers, and carseats! As far as the toys go i will buy them used cause the kids grow out of them so fast!
I’m wierded out by it, but I’m kind of a germophobe. There are a lot of things though that you can sanitize yourself. I did pick up a exersaucer used at a yard sale then proceeded to “nut up” cleaning it for my son. It was worth over $100, and I got it for $5. I’m not really into saving money, it was an impulsive buy type of thing. To each their own. I spent $30,000 just on my son the first year so I can’t really tell anyone how to spend their money. I went nuts! Do what you want and forget what people say. Its your baby, and your home – do what you are comfortable with.
It depends on what the item is. I wouldn’t recommend getting a used crib, crib mattress, playpen, stroller, or Johnny Jump-Up — basically anything they are going to spend a lot of time in, anything that could collapse while they are in it, anything that could drop them if it breaks, etc. But for things like bathtubs, bouncy seats, booster seats, clothing, soft toys, etc — things where even if there’s something wrong with it it won’t hurt them, and things that can be washed/sterilized, I’m all about buying used. Just be smart and don’t compromise your baby’s safety to save a few bucks.
Another wise smart move for online gamers is live casino action including Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat and UK Bingo for 24/7 live dealers. Plus you can all easily learn how to backgammon and play to win this historic games.
