I had the same dilemma last year. I needed a table of some sort to go next to the glider. I purchased a small round 3 leg table and put a blue table cloth on it that goes all the way down to the floor. It looks so cute with the nursery lamp on it.

If you know anyone handy with woodworking you could go to a store that sells unfinished furniture (I live in CT and we have one here but I can’t remember the name). Anyway, they carry really nice stuff, made of all different wood types but it womes unfinished so you stain and polish it yourself. As a pregnant woman you obviously shouldn’t be around those chemicals but maybe you could get hubby to do it or another family member to do it as a congratulatory baby gift. Maybe someone short on cash but who is handy. That way you can get a stain to match the rest of the set perfectly and you can choose exactly the style furniture you want because you don’t have to worry about the color when you buy it.
I’ve found that it is often difficult to match up pieces from different collections. Even if you buy all “cherry” pieces from multiple collections they probably won’t match up exactly because everyone’s stain is slightly different. If that doesn’t matter to you than you can just buy them from different stores like you said.
As for the white and cherry furniture together, I don’t think that would look right. Maybe if the nursery is really large you could get away with it but I don’t think it would look right in an average sized nursery. Good luck!

Your baby isn’t going to care, so the whole “matching nursery set” is more to make you happy than your baby. So, buy what you’d like. Honestly, I’d suggest finding the highest quality night stand you can afford so that it will actually last long enough for your baby to enjoy using it. Standard nursery furniture tends to be really cheap, even if it looks pretty.
Since you’re the one who is going to be using the end table, pick what you’d like. Do you want open shelves to put magazines and such on to have at hand while you’re nursing? Would you rather have drawers to stuff full of breast pads and easy munchees to snack on while you nurse? Are you even going to use the glider in the nursery or are you going to end up out on the sofa with the tv playing quietly in the background instead?

I personally think that white would be an eye sore in a room full of cherry wood. I would just buy something differently or if you have someone hand in your family like me, I went to a garage sale and found this great solid wood, oak stained bedside table. It is absolutely beautiful. My grandfather stripped it and sanded it and painted it white to go with the rest of my baby’s furniture. It cost with paint etc… like $27 total because I bought semi-expensive kid friendly paint.

I would buy a cherry nightstand. I personally can’t stand different color furniture, it would drive me nuts. A different make is okay, but the wood should match.
